 The
story of Arvada began in 1850 when gold was first found here.
Prospectors, on their way to California, stopped to rest and found $5
worth of gold in an unnamed mountain stream. The prospector moved on only
to come back 9 years later to try and find more gold. Their success
started the Colorado gold rush. The rich soil of the area also brought
farmers who could sell their crops to the gold miners. By 1870, Arvada
was born as Benjamin Wadsworth and Louis Reno filed a town
plat. Arvada was named in honor of Wadsworth's wife's brother-in-law,
Hiram Arvada Haskin. Arvada, CO is incorporated in 1904. Up
until WWII, Arvada population was at about 1,500. The boom happened after
the war that brought significant increase in housing and population to
Arvada since then.
